Good ‘Ol Boys

Today I saw a Facebook post informing  that on November 11, 1978 the General Lee made it’s first jump clearing a distance of 82 feet and a height of 16 feet over a 1974 Monaco police car. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the “Dukes of Hazzard” through the years, and remember being filled with wonderment by the awesomeness of the orange Dodge Charger (dubbed the General Lee) flying through the air over other cars, broken bridges, and countless obstacles. Bo and Luke Duke, as well as the rest of their family and friends were positive role models for the most part, and overall the “Dukes of Hazzard” was good clean entertainment.

With each episode of the show I found myself watching in anticipation for that moment when they would have the General Lee make a seemingly impossible jump. Looking back, I now wondered how many Dodge Chargers they mangled with all of those jumps, so I started searching the world wide web for some answers. Over the course filming the “Dukes of Hazzard” a total 150 General Lees were destroyed, but the first General Lee has been fully restored by a fan of the show.  I’ve also listed a few interesting links below with some tidbits of information relating to the “Dukes of Hazzard” and the General Lee.
